Biography and Contributions to Beekeeping
One of the founders of structural chemistry, Butlerov was also Russia’s leading champion of rational beekeeping. He wrote the popular manual The Bee, Its Life and the Chief Rules of Sensible Beekeeping, founded the journal Russian Beekeeping Leaflet, and promoted frame hives among peasants. In 1877 he brought gentle Caucasian bees from the northern Caucasus to central Russia. Soviet writers called him the father of Russian rational beekeeping.
